About the Role
The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse educated in the art and science of nursing, dedicated to assisting patients in attaining, maintaining, and restoring health. This role operates within the Mississippi Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. The RN provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process, adhering to accreditation standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System’s (SRHS) Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care using the Nursing Process and evidence-based practices.
- Adhere to the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA standards, and SRHS policies.
- Maintain competency in knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for the role.
- Supervise LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
- Complete and maintain required certifications specific to the assigned specialty area within designated timeframes.
- Demonstrate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams and maintain professional working relationships.
- Participate in de-escalation training and apply techniques as needed.
Requirements
- Graduate from an NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
- Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Specialty certifications required for specific units (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP) within 12–18 months of assignment.
- Minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Outlook and Word.
- Completion of de-escalation training by the end of orientation (90 days).
Physical Demands
- Moderately active work involving frequent movement within the facility and occasional travel to other SRHS locations.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects, including the human body, with negligible force.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, with potential hazards of infectious disease.
- Repetitive motions, such as typing and operating office equipment.
- Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine auditory discriminations.
- Close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus between computer monitors and printed materials.
- Capability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
- Flexibility to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, or weekends as needed.
