About the Role
7 East provides services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, acute and chronic Heart Failure patients, as well as medical surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring. Patients on the unit require close and frequent assessment and skillful and timely clinical interventions in order to achieve their treatment goals. 7 East is a 32-bed unit and the average patient age is 64.
Schedule
Rotating shift (Day/Night rotating). Full-time position requiring every other weekend and every other holiday per year.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a school of nursing that results in eligibility to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse.
- BSN preferred; all new hires must have a BSN degree or agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role (effective January 1, 2013).
- Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required for Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, and Emergency departments.
- Experienced Canadian Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.
Responsibilities
- Gathers and analyzes patient information.
- Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises an individualized plan of care.
- Uses teach-back methodology to educate patients and families.
- Actively seeks to prevent potential hospital-acquired conditions.
- Effectively communicates patient status, priority goals, and interventions during consultations, rounds, and handoffs.
- Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals.
