About the role

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team. Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.

The person in this position will work three 12-hour shifts per week for a total of 36 hours from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The role requires 3–4 weekend shifts and 3–4 on-call shifts in a 6-week scheduling period.

What you’ll need

• 1 year of relevant RN experience
• Active RN license
• Graduate of an approved discipline program

The hiring team prefers at least 1 year of either ICU or ED experience as well as previous experience with adult patient populations.

Responsibilities

The Resource RN will float between MRI, ROCU (Recovery and Observation Care Unit for IR patients), PET/CT, and IV Cubby, acting as a resource to various areas of Radiology. This role will be the first responder to stat or rapid calls, including accessing ports and monitoring pacemakers.

Nuclear medicine nurse responsibilities include:

• Cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children
• Stress testing in the PET department
• Nuclear stress testing using Regadenoson, Adenosine, Dobutamine, or treadmills, primarily on inpatients
• Viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high-dose insulin drips combined with glucose and potassium
• Brain mappings/stress studies with Diamox or adenosine
• Performing sarcoid studies in PET using heparin
• Monitoring mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology
• Coronary CTAs using metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV, and nitroglycerin
• Assisting thyroid cancer patients with prepping for iodine therapies and testing
• Teaching nuclear medicine students patient care curriculum in the allied health program, focusing on direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation

• Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum
• Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient’s care and management to determine nursing diagnosis
• Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes
• Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment

Technical Capabilities

• Care Planning (Novice): Anticipates resource needs, identifies distinct tasks, sets priorities, schedules activities, meets deadlines, and organizes work within areas of direct responsibility; handles multiple assignments simultaneously by prioritizing work into manageable units; adapts to changes with minimal disruption; follows up to ensure problems are resolved.
• Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Provides fundamental proficiency in patient education for practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Demonstrates fundamental proficiency to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty; conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations; recognizes problems, asks questions, and contacts the patient’s primary care provider and other healthcare team members; gathers pertinent clinical data to aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
• Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions; generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
