Responsibilities

• Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated; documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.
• Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
• Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration; verbalizes medication information to patients/family/significant others, assesses patients prior to administering medications, and reassesses/document responses according to hospital policy.
• Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks while maintaining accountability for care delegated.
• Actively promotes a culture of safety by assessing patients for potential risks, adhering to hospital policies, and initiating interventions related to identified risk factors.
• Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peers at change of shift; ensures patient hand-off when leaving for breaks.
• Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
• Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant others; plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods and documents responses.
• Cares for specific patient populations as necessary, regardless of location.
• Delivers patient-centered care by embracing cultural diversity, respecting dignity, maintaining open communication, and actively listening.
• Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• Promotes a culture of learning and growth by seeking experiences and formal/independent learning activities to develop clinical and professional skills.
• Teaches others to succeed through mentorship.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.

Requirements

• Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s Degree (required) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
• Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License.
• American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (based on certification specialty hours of work requirement).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Working Conditions

• Manual: Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.
• Occupational: Some occupational risk.
• Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. of force.
• Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.

Pay

$61.80 per hour.
