About the role

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and coordinates nursing care for patients based on nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Serves as a resource person when needed. Applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. Supports Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation’s mission statement. Provides care for all patients from birth to elderly.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process.
  • Direct and coordinate nursing care based on established practice standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical and operational questions.
  • Apply age-specific and culturally appropriate care considerations.
  • Administer treatments, medications, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Provide patient, family, and significant other education.
  • Supervise Unit Secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
  • Document all care delivery actions accurately.
  • Follow established guidelines, procedures, and protocols.
  • Utilize office and medical equipment (e.g., computers, telephones, EKG machines, cystoscopy equipment).

Requirements

  • Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution.
  • Licensed in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to pass and maintain competencies for this position.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the nursing process.
  • Ability to work in a patient care setting and manage care across the continuum.
  • Basic EKG and nursing skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to document care delivery actions and follow guidelines.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Flexibility with work schedule and ability to act independently within prescribed limits.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: One year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a healthcare setting.

Pay

Minimum hourly pay: $48.57.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 80 hours per two-week pay period (40 hours per week).
