Registered Nurse - Inpatient/Med/Surg; $30,000 Sign On*, $15,000 Relocation, and Retention Bonus eligible

About the role

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and coordinates nursing care for patients based on nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Serves as a resource person when needed. Applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. Supports Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation’s mission statement.

Provides care for all patients from birth to elderly, including post-surgical and behavioral health patients. Conducts initial assessments and re-assessments every 24 hours.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
• Direct and coordinate nursing care based on nursing practice standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective care and optimal patient outcomes.
• Serve as a resource for nursing staff and other healthcare providers.
• Apply age-specific and culturally appropriate care considerations.
• Provide care for patients across the lifespan, including post-surgical and behavioral health patients.
• Conduct initial and 24-hour re-assessments of patients.
• Administer treatments, medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide patient/family education.
• Collaborate with other professions to manage care across the continuum.
• Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.

Requirements

• Completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN-approved institution.
• Licensed in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Current BLS certification.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (required for the position).
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to practice nursing as described in Alaska statutes regarding Registered Nursing.
• Cognitive and technical knowledge to manage care across the continuum.
• Flexibility with work schedule and ability for independent action within prescribed limits.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to work in a patient care setting.

Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Strong documentation skills for care delivery.
• Ability to follow guidelines and procedures effectively.
• Effective communication with managers, clients, patients, and the public.
• Theoretical knowledge of the nursing process, care management, and continuity of care.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, computation of rates, ratios, percentages).
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay

Minimum hourly pay: $48.57.

Schedule

• Full-time position (80 hours per two-week pay period).
• 40 hours per week.
