Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, and implement an individualized plan of care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments and equipment according to procedure requirements.
- Maintain awareness while in the surgery suite of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia responses, and overall condition during surgery.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure seamless surgical care, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia, and other healthcare professionals.
- Contributes to Quality Improvement activities and participates in the departmental Quality Improvement Program.
- Clear communication with the patient and their families.
- Perform duties as required.
Requirements
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in the operating room, successful completion of the periop 101 course, or ability to successfully complete periop 101 course required.
- Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR), preferred.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Able to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements, i.e. blood borne pathogens, etc.
- Physical requirements: Able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs using provided equipment or additional manpower as needed. Standing and walking for extended periods of time wearing a lead apron.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
