Registered Nurse-Nurse Manager

About the role

The Registered Nurse Manager-ICU/ER functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. They assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of care based on age-specific components. They assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises the 24/7 operations of assigned units.
• Provides coverage for other Nurse Managers as needed.
• Responsible for the direction and supervision of staff orientation, training, development, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based programs/processes.
• Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
• Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
• Equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
• Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
• Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.
• Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, aligning nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes.

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

• English Language Proficiency
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: ACEN or CCNE
• Current - full - active - and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
• Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements but do not possess the required licensure may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis).

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Nurse I - Level I: Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing
  • Nurse I - Level II: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 1 year of specialized nursing experience
  • Nurse I - Level III: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 2 years of professional nursing experience; BSN and 1 year of professional nursing experience; Master's degree in nursing (MSN); Master's degree in a related field with a BSN; Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Nurse II: BSN with 2 years of professional nursing experience; MSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience; Master's degree in a related field with BSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience; Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Nurse III: MSN and 2 years of specialized nursing experience; Master's degree in a related field with BSN and 2 years of specialized nursing experience; Doctoral degree in Nursing; Doctoral degree in a related field with BSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience
• Experience:
  • Nurse I - Level I: No additional professional nursing experience required
  • Nurse I - Level II: 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 1
  • Nurse I - Level III: 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 2; Master's degree in nursing (MSN); Master's degree in a related field with a BSN; Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Nurse II: 2 years of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3; MSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience; Master's degree in a related field with BSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience; Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Nurse III: 2 years of specialized nursing experience; Master's degree in a related field with BSN and 2 years of specialized nursing experience; Doctoral degree in Nursing; Doctoral degree in a related field with a BSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience
