Registered Nurse (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) - Plainsboro, NJ - Per Diem (Day Shift)

About the Role

Penn Medicine is dedicated to our tripartite mission of providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in the field of medicine. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a level 3, 13-bed unit specializing in the care of newborns after birth, including infants born as early as 28 weeks. We care for infants with complications, genetic disorders, prematurity, and those in need of respiratory support such as Nasal Cannula, High Flow Nasal Cannula, CPAP, SiPAP, and SIMV. Our NICU collaborates with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has a Neonatologist in house 24/7. If an infant is born outside of our criteria, we stabilize and transfer them to another facility.

Schedule

Scheduling requirements for Tier 2 Per Diem RNs:

• Work a minimum of three shifts per six-week schedule.
• 12 of these hours must be fulfilled on a weekend shift.
• Work one holiday per calendar year (Per Diem RNs will be paid at 1.5 times the rate for holiday hours).
• Work at least two ‘difficult to staff’ days per calendar year (e.g., Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween, Black Friday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Valentine’s Day, or New Year’s Eve).
• Follow departmental call-out policy and make up absences within the same schedule period.
• Failure to comply with scheduling requirements on two occasions in a year may result in withdrawal from Per Diem status.
• Scheduling is based on the needs of the unit.

Responsibilities

• Assist with procedures such as central lines and spinal taps.
• Monitor vital signs and administer medication.
• Assess enteral intake and recognize changes in assessments that may indicate life-threatening diagnoses.
• Provide family-centered and developmental care to create a soothing environment for infants.

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required or in pursuit of.

Experience:

• 3 years of NICU experience required; 5 years preferred.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required (can be obtained on site).
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification required (can be obtained on site).
• Active NJ RN license required.
• National Nursing Certification preferred.

Pay

Salary Range: $49.96 - $68.99/hour. As part of the job offer, successful candidates are provided a specific rate, taking into consideration various factors including experience and education.
