About the Role
The Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) at TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital is a state-of-the-art critical care environment specializing in complex and high-acuity patient care. The Unit is split into 14 beds for PCU and 28 beds for ICU. Our MSICU is integral to our Level III Trauma Program and Comprehensive Stroke Program, providing cutting-edge treatments for trauma and stroke patients. We offer a range of advanced critical care services, including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) for patients requiring extended dialysis and soon will offer care for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD). Additionally, we utilize Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Intravenous (USGPIV) techniques for optimal patient care and comfort.

Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients and families; document per unit/TriHealth standards.
- Develop and execute individualized plans of care based on assessment findings, standards, and desired outcomes.
- Deliver safe, holistic care while maintaining patient dignity, autonomy, and rights in a high-acuity setting.
- Recognize emergent situations and take appropriate action to support timely interventions and patient safety.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and adjust plans as needed.
- Provide patient/family education and document response to care and teaching.
- Support unit excellence by sharing knowledge, serving as a resource, and contributing to ongoing professional development.
- Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family; completes initial assessment tool and documents ongoing assessment per unit/TriHealth guidelines.
- Plans care for patient and family based on assessment, standards of care, and optimal specific outcomes; updates plan of care as needed.
- Develops both short- and long-term goals with patient/family and healthcare team including discharge planning.
- Provides a safe, therapeutic environment, maintains patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights, and is sensitive to patient diversity.
- Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action; completes patient assignment including documentation within scheduled timeframe.
- Bases interventions on clinical data and desired outcomes and documents accordingly.
- Trains/educates other staff and acts as an expert resource in specialty area through abilities in existing and newer knowledge and skills.
- Evaluates the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes; documents the patient/family response to care including teaching.
- Collaborates with the patient/family and with other members of the health care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed.
- Supervises the care that was delegated to other health care team members.
- Performs technical skills according to policy and procedure and accepted standards within their area of practice.
- Safely administers medications/treatments and monitors their effects; uses all equipment in a safe, appropriate manner.
- Demonstrates organizational responsibilities: identifies areas for self-improvement, functions in relief charge/resource role as requested, completes assignments within scheduled timeframes, and maintains current knowledge in area of practice.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS/CPR (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers).
- New hires must obtain BSN within 5 years of hire.
- Strong clinical judgment and nursing knowledge across the life cycle.
Qualifications
- Preferred membership in a related professional nursing organization.
- Up to 1 year of clinical nursing experience (critical care experience a plus).
- Preferred certification in specialty.
