REGISTERED NURSE: Mott Childrens Hospital (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)

Responsibilities

• Pediatric Critical Care Nursing is a specialty dealing with human responses to life-threatening problems.
• Critically ill patients are defined as those at high risk for actual or potential life-threatening health problems.
• The PICU nurse must monitor and safeguard the quality of care for patients.
• The PICU nurse must ensure that all critically ill patients and their families receive optimal care.
• The PICU nurse must be able to assess the patient and the family's coping mechanisms and provide/seek support as needed.
• The PICU nurse acts as an advocate for the patient and a liaison between the patient, patient’s family, and other healthcare professionals including Social Work and Child Life.

Required Qualifications

• Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
• 12-18 months of current Adult ICU RN experience.
• PALS certification is required (or within six (6) months of date of hire) or MUST be completed prior to end of probationary period.
• This position requires standing/walking/positioning/pulling/lifting of heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the principles and practice of Patient and Family-Centered Care.
• Pediatric experience preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• PALS.
