About the role
Sentara RMH Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for the 4 East Medical Surgical unit. This position is ideal for candidates with experience or interest in caring for surgical patients in areas such as General Surgery, Gastrointestinal, OB-Gyn, Orthopedics, Vascular, Urology, Nephrology, and more.
Sign-on bonus up to $20,000 offered with no commitment or contract required.
Upcoming December 2026 and May 2027 nursing graduates are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Registered Nurse licensure (Required)
- Previous acute care experience (preferred)
Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion, and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Transition to Practice/Nurse Residency Program
This 10-week program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in Medical-Surgical areas. For new graduates, this program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency to support your transition to practice.
- Formal delivery of fundamental nursing concepts and standards with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs
- Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines
- Hands-on experience alongside a trained nurse preceptor
- Opportunity to share experiences and network with peers in a safe, protected environment
- A series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses)
