About the Role
The registered nurse (RN) provides comprehensive patient care in a medical oncology unit, supporting adult patients with solid tumors during various stages of illness and recovery. Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, managing symptoms, infusion therapy, central line care, patient education, discharge planning, and emotional support, all within the Mayo Nursing Care Model.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate nursing care for oncology patients
- Administer chemotherapy and manage infusion therapy
- Provide central line care and symptom management
- Deliver patient education and discharge planning
- Offer emotional support to patients and families
- Support professional nursing practice and delegate tasks based on skill and acuity
- Demonstrate leadership through mentoring, quality improvement, and committee participation
- Ensure effective communication and transitions of care
- Function within established standards and standards of practice
Requirements
- Nursing degree from an accredited program
- At least one year of RN experience
- Current RN licensure and BLS certification
- Additional licensure or certifications as required
