Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients in a 25-bed labor, delivery, and antepartum unit with 3 surgical suites. This fast-paced delivery unit cares for pregnant patients from 20 weeks to term, supported by 24/7 anesthesiologist and laborist coverage. A Level 3 NBICU is located on the floor to support patient care. We seek a team member who thrives in a culture of safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assess: Perform appropriate assessments of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Seek and evaluate information from interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, physicians, non-nursing disciplines, and support staff.
• Plan: Use assessment information and critical thinking to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care. Actively involve patients, families, teams, and physicians in planning, including education, referrals, and follow-up for ongoing support needs.
• Implement: Direct the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration. Provide or delegate care consistent with the plan of care, guidelines, and professional licensure. Demonstrate priority-setting, time management, and resource coordination.
• Evaluate: Assess patient responses to interventions by reviewing goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and patient/family satisfaction. Revise the plan of care as needed and reassess changes.
• Professionalism: Promote the nursing profession and participate in the development of others. Integrate legal and ethical standards into practice, comply with regulatory requirements, and ensure accurate, timely documentation.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment start.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or willingness to obtain within four (4) years of hire date. Note: As of 4/27/2025, a BSN is required for all new hires or promotions. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date are held to the minimum requirements in place at the time.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more years of RN work experience in Labor and Delivery.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation, accessing information, and medication preparation.
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve and carry supplies/equipment, and handle items of varying weights, including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies/equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often in crowded or busy rooms.
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Schedule

Full-time nights, 36 hours per week.

Pay

Hourly range: $35.22 - $53.29. Actual rate dependent upon experience.
