Registered Nurse II - Peds Mental Health

Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients within the Children’s Day Treatment (CDT) program, including medication administration, development of care and discharge plans, and age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs. Organizes and prioritizes nursing activities while considering patient and staff needs. Assumes responsibility for quality care, professional development, and participation in performance improvement and research activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally-appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
• Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Deliver patient- and family-centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
• Conduct assessments, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and demonstrating responsive, respectful, and professional behavior.
• Function within a professional practice model through shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, professional development, leadership, clinical excellence, teamwork, autonomous practice, and accountability.
• Coordinate effective and efficient delivery of patient care services using care management principles.
• Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes.
• Administer medications to the patient population served in the clinic.
• Develop and implement plans of care and/or discharge plans for assigned patients as needed.
• Organize and prioritize nursing care activities considering patient and staff needs.
• Participate in performance improvement and research activities to enhance patient care and organizational processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire or reclassification (refer to policy A141).
• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
• Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
• Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Pay

Hourly pay grade: Health-28.

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 40.
