Registered Nurse II - Peds ER

About the Role

The Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process. This role delivers safe and effective care, interacts with multidisciplinary team members, and coordinates care to achieve desired patient outcomes in a MAGNET facility.

Under general supervision, the RN II focuses on patient/family-centered care, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in accordance with MUSC policies and nursing standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
• Direct and lead assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver age- and developmentally-appropriate care.
• Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan interventions, and evaluate goals and interventions.
• Coordinate care and apply care management principles to ensure efficient and effective delivery of patient services.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment, ensuring patient privacy and professional behavior.
• Participate in shared governance, peer review, and professional development to promote leadership and clinical excellence.
• Demonstrate autonomous practice, accountability, and critical thinking in delivering patient care.
• Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
• Work in a professional practice model, promoting a healthy work environment and accepting personal responsibility for professional growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN degree within four years of hire.
• A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Providers.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to work from elevated areas (frequent) and in confined/cramped spaces (frequent).

• Ability to perform "pinching" operations, gross motor activities, firm grasping, and fine manipulation with fingers and hands (continuous).

• Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders (continuous).
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (infrequent).
• Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (infrequent).
• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force (frequent). Examples include transferring patients, pushing wheelchairs, or stretchers.
• Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one or both eyes (continuous).
• Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, and maintain peripheral vision (continuous).
• Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (continuous).
• Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (continuous).
• Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (continuous).
• Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required, and in a latex-safe environment (continuous).
• Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (continuous).
• Selected positions require the ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function and be physically qualified for respirator use (continuous).

Schedule

• 36 scheduled weekly hours.
• 3-12 hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Hourly pay grade: Health-28.
