Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe patient care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, planning, delivery, coordination, integration, and evaluation of care related to patient needs.
  • Collect, analyze, and record relevant patient health data accurately, with minimal exceptions as measured by supervisory review.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems with minimal exceptions.
  • Identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient with minimal exceptions.
  • Develop and implement a plan of care describing interventions to attain expected outcomes, with minimal exceptions.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward goal attainment with minimal exceptions.
  • Adhere to approved, research-based practice standards with minimal exceptions.
  • Direct and supervise patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time according to department guidelines.
  • Demonstrate consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care.
  • Act effectively as charge nurse, group leader, or preceptor when assigned.
  • Write progress notes demonstrating understanding of patient status and progress toward goals (80-90% compliance).
  • Function in charge nurse or leadership capacity as determined by practice arena.
  • Advocate for patients to preserve autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Deliver care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner sensitive to patient diversity 100% of the time.
  • Ensure patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures 100% of the time.
  • Act ethically on behalf of patients 100% of the time.
  • Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in area of practice.
  • Provide proof of current licensure validation to supervisor proactively and prior to due date.
  • Complete required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
  • Provide evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation to supervisor by due date.
  • Participate in a level-appropriate number of hours of educational activity related to job function annually.
  • Demonstrate clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, feedback, or observation.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes for the department and institution as assigned.
  • Engage in nursing research and contribute to the advancement of nursing science.
  • Identify clinical problems requiring investigation and assist in data collection within a structured format.
  • Partner with senior nurses to use research findings in clinical practice.
  • Perform other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • 2-year Associate Degree in Nursing, or Vocational/Technical Diploma from a Professional Nursing Program, required.
  • 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • All RNs hired without a BSN must enroll in a bachelor’s-prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire and complete it within 10 years. RNs licensed on or before 12/19/17 are exempt.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Nurse; if experience is not relevant, completion of an RN residency program is required.
  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse.
  • BLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Other certifications may be required based on department needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly to move objects.
  • Occasional: Balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching.
  • Frequent: Fit testing, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking.
  • Constant: Typing.

Hazards

  • Occasional exposure to radiation/radiant energy.
  • Frequent exposure to bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional: Noise, vibration, wet and/or humid conditions.

Occasional travel may be required, but not on a regular basis.

Pay

Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and industry standards. Pay range: $41.81–$60.87 per hour.
