About the role

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB), located in downtown New Braunfels, is a 94-private-bed facility offering comprehensive services including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center with 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and heart care from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

The competent Nurse in this role practices independently, demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of clinical situations. This position involves providing routine and complex care, managing long-range goals, and handling contingencies in clinical nursing. The nurse will make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers to manage clinical situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) for assigned patients, consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to level of practice.
  • Administers medications and treatments using the appropriate protocol; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given.
  • Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • RN License in state of employment or compact.

Qualifications

  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
  • New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member, with initial on-boarding requirements validated through successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Services-specific competency validation.
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
  • Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
  • Current STABLE (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification required (Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor).
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required.

Credentials and Grace Periods

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification, and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates must obtain required certifications within designated time frames based on experience level:

  • Experienced Associates (1+ year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past 3 years):
    • Basic Life Support (BLS): No grace period (AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire).
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Within 30 days of hire.
    • Pediatric Life Support (PALS): Within 30 days of hire.
    • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC): Within 60 days of hire.
    • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR): Within 60 days of hire.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Within 30 days of hire.
    • AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring): Within 30 days of hire.
    • STABLE (Neonatal Education): Within 30 days of hire.
  • New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty (less than 1 year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past 3 years):
    • Basic Life Support (BLS): No grace period (AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire).
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Within 90 days of hire.
    • Pediatric Life Support (PALS): Within 90 days of hire.
    • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC): Within 18 months of hire.
    • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR): Within 18 months of hire.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Within 60 days of hire.
    • AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring): Within 60 days of hire.
    • STABLE (Neonatal Education): Within 60 days of hire.
