Registered Nurse I (Nights)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physical and mental condition and collaborate with patients and team members to design individualized, person‑centered care plans that enhance psychosocial and recovery skills for individuals with mental illness and dual disorders.
  • Safely implement the use of seclusion and restraints, applying knowledge of physical and emotional risk factors.
  • Provide nursing care on the Night shift (7:00 pm – 7:30 am) in a 12‑hour, non‑rotating Pitman schedule at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute (72‑bed, Joint Commission‑accredited facility).
  • Work weekends on a rotating basis and may be required to work overtime.
  • Complete a consecutive 4‑week New Employee Orientation (Week 1: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with lunch; Weeks 2‑4 scheduled by the Nurse Educator, including day and night shifts).
  • Maintain compliance with required trainings such as BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO), and facility‑specific orientation modules.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program.
  • Current, in‑good‑standing RN license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or license‑eligible); multi‑state compact endorsement accepted.
  • Valid driver’s license that must remain active throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice, especially psychiatric nursing and psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery models.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care using knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and cultural needs.
  • Effective interpersonal communication, team‑focused care, and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge, ability to delegate, supervise, and evaluate nursing processes.
  • Successful completion of BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO), and other required training upon employment.
  • Additional considerations: experience in psychiatric, acute care, long‑term, correctional, or other healthcare settings; bilingual fluency in Spanish and English; veteran or National Service background.

    • 1st shift weekend: $5.50/hr
    • 2nd shift weekday: $5.50/hr

    • 3rd shift weekday: $4.00/hr
    • 3rd shift weekend/holidays: $7.00/hr

Pay

Hiring range: $82,043 – $113,219 (Pay Band 4).

Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 pm – 7:30 am.
  • 12‑hour shifts on a non‑rotating Pitman schedule.

  • Overtime may be required.
