Registered Nurse - Float Pool - Per Diem Nights

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Registered Nurse to function as a caregiver for a specific patient population, delivering effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. This role involves directing and overseeing care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

A Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health delivers nursing care according to evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care. Key responsibilities include:

• Assessment
  • Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Performs age- and disease-specific assessments independently, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognizes clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identifies patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Planning
  • Develops a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulates age- and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develops and coordinates a prioritized plan of care encompassing the continuum of care.
• Implementation
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care.
  • Provides ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status and care plans.
  • Implements age- and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provides or coordinates patient/family education and ensures understanding.
  • Performs care according to established protocols, communicates with appropriate persons, and documents events.
  • Delivers nursing care reflecting patient needs, advocates appropriately, and demonstrates evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Performs continuous point-of-care electronic documentation of assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administers medication using bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitates multidisciplinary discharge of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiates interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Identifies ethical issues in practice and brings them to the attention of the team.
  • Responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Acquires and maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of an associate degree in Nursing or diploma in Nursing.
• BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after November 2019).
• For team members hired after June 1, 2021, BSN required within five years of hire per union contract (CC456U, CC689U, CC891U). Advanced master's degree in nursing programs (e.g., Associates to MSN) satisfy the BSN requirement.
• Six or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
• Strong focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high-quality care.

Preferred Qualifications

• National certification in area of specialty (preferred when eligible).

Licenses and Certifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by date of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate is an estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Some roles may also be eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
