Nurse Tech - Float Pool Per Diem Nights

About the Role

Under the supervision of an RN or direction of an LVN, the Nurse Tech works cooperatively with all team members in planning and performing basic nursing care. The Nurse Tech is accountable for all patient care provided and is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and promoting teamwork among coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Addresses basic human needs in a respectful and caring manner and documents interventions in EMR.
• Adheres to infection prevention policies and procedures.
• Follows policies, procedures, and standards of practice to deliver safe and optimal care.
• Communicates effectively with the patient, family, and medical staff during the continuum of care.
• Complies with Joint Commission’s national patient safety goals.
• Complies with organizational quality dashboard/benchmarking goals.
• Establishes priorities to carry out an established care plan according to patient needs.
• Identifies common variables affecting patient care and follows the reporting process.
• Maintains cooperative working relationships with members of the hospital team.
• Maintains regulatory compliance consistent with quality standards and ethical obligations of the profession.
• Participates in activities in alignment with the Magnet Model.
• Participates in organizational and professional development activities.
• Performs as a preceptor in an active and engaged manner.
• Provides care within scope of practice as directed by other members of the healthcare team.
• Reinforces patient and family education under the direction of the RN throughout hospitalization.

• Supports patient care within scope of practice as directed by other members of the healthcare team.
• Utilizes resources in an economical manner and safe patient handling procedures.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Takes assignment as a patient “sitter” for at-risk patients, making physical and behavioral observations and reporting changes to the RN.
• Ensures that report is received and given at the beginning and end of each shift and anytime a change in condition occurs.
• Identifies patients using identity band to verify name and date of birth.
• Assists with moving patients following safe patient handling procedures.
• Ensures patient privacy and dignity.
• Follows hand hygiene policy/procedure during all patient encounters.
• Introduces self to patient and family and provides information regarding the purpose of the assignment.
• Calls patient by preferred name and follows all standards of conduct.
• Ensures a plan for relief to not leave patient unattended during breaks and lunch.
• Takes vital signs and other pertinent information as required by the department and documents in the medical record.
• Communicates all significant clinical findings to the nurse.
• Implements the patient care plan by providing direct patient care for assigned patients, including but not limited to:
  • Giving baths, oral hygiene, skin care, and backrubs.
  • Assisting patients to and from the bathroom.
  • Positioning patients and changing positions appropriately according to care plan instructions.
  • Ensuring patients receive prescribed diet and assisting with feedings as needed.
  • Placing trays conveniently and collecting specimens as instructed using appropriate technique.
  • Taking vital signs and notifying RN of any change or abnormal finding.
  • Assisting/performing treatments as directed by RN/LVN, including foley care, application of binders, FSBS, sitz baths, and post-mortem care, among others.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Registered Nurse program and have completed the first semester/quarter of basic nursing skills.
• Ongoing enrollment in a Registered Nurse program.
• BCLS or ACLS Certification.

Pay

$25.00 / Hour
