Registered Nurse - Acute Medicine - Full Time Days

About the role

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Acute Care Medicine unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South Campus) is a 38-bed unit with a ratio of 4 or 5 patients to 1 RN. The unit is part of a larger healthcare system that includes full-time academic faculty and community physicians from Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Acute Care Medicine unit provides care for patients with a wide range of clinical issues, including significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, gastrointestinal conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and more. The unit offers advanced training to new nurses to ensure they are functioning at the highest level.

The unit is led by a clinical manager and a lead charge nurse, and is supported by an advanced practice nurse, a case manager, a social worker, a physical therapist, a dietitian, and a pharmacist. These multidisciplinary team members collaborate with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide comprehensive patient care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Affirmatively assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Hours are typically 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential weekend and holiday coverage.
