About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment at Troy Community Hospital’s 10-bed Acute Care unit. This unit primarily focuses on an interdisciplinary care approach for medical patients with the Medical Hospitalist Service. All bedside acute care nurses at Guthrie benefit from the added support of Virtual RNs located in the Pulse Center, assisting with a variety of tasks to enable more time for direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care, developing and coordinating the plan of care to achieve patient goals and optimize outcomes.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Performs and maintains essential competencies as required by the specific area of hire and population served.
  • Advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs of patients.
  • Fosters a learning environment for patients, families, nursing, and other healthcare team members, including students.
  • Aligns practice with safety and quality standards, integrating evidence and best practices into nursing care to improve patient outcomes.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development, practicing at the top of license within legal parameters and promoting a culture of inquiry.
  • Demonstrates leadership as a change agent, collaborating with the inter-professional care team to integrate nursing knowledge.
  • Models professional behaviors and participates in planning and presenting educational programs.
  • Proficiency in information technology, including electronic health records and communication systems.
  • Works effectively with a wide range of interdisciplinary staff, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Uses independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills that convey a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Manages multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations effectively.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • BSN in Nursing preferred; any previously agreed-upon effective date for obtaining a BSN remains in effect, including for those transitioning from the NLRN Program.
  • Specialty Certification preferred.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS is unit dependent.
  • At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse, or transition from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency (NLRN) Program with less than one year of experience.
