About the role

As a Registered Nurse you will work on our remodeled 24-bed unit where teamwork and exceptional patient care are at the heart of everything we do. On 5D you'll care for a diverse patient population, including cardiac, respiratory, mental health, and general medical cases. With great patient ratios and a collaborative approach to healthcare, we ensure a supportive environment where you can thrive. This is a full-time position with weekend and holiday rotation required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with a variety of needs.
  • Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care, and effectively prioritize patient needs that are both expected and unanticipated.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills to interact with other health care professionals and patients.
  • Demonstrate competence and resourcefulness in the implementation of the technical skills required to care for the patient.
  • Demonstrates initiative in remaining current in the organization and department policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care giving, shows follow through on delivery, demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, proactively addresses actual and potential problems, and executing compliant clinical documentation.
  • Assist with educating patients and families and serves as a resource on department standards for patient care.

Requirements

  • Current NYS Registered Nursing license
  • 1 year RN experience preferred; Graduated Nurses welcome to apply
  • Must obtain BLS and ACLS certification prior to completion of the introductory period.

Physical Demands

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard)
  • May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions
  • Stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers)
  • Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary
  • Must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job
