Job Summary

Responsible for applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to adult and pediatric populations to identify, treat, monitor, and evaluate nutrition-related conditions. Provides evidence-based nutrition care that supports positive patient outcomes while contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Essential Functions

• Completes comprehensive nutrition assessments through chart review, patient interviews, anthropometric measurements, nutrition-focused physical examinations, and evaluation of clinical data.
• Analyzes assessment information to identify nutrition risks, nutrition diagnoses, malnutrition indicators, learning needs, and health behaviors that may impact outcomes.
• Develops, implements, documents, and monitors individualized nutrition care plans using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process.
• Provides medical nutrition therapy, nutrition counseling, education, and referrals as appropriate to support patient care goals.
• Utilizes evidence-based counseling techniques that support health literacy, cultural sensitivity, and patient-centered care.
• Maintains patient progress and evaluates the effectiveness of nutrition interventions, modifying care plans as appropriate.
• Documents complete, accurate, and timely information within the electronic health record in accordance with established standards and policies.
• Enters nutrition-related orders as authorized by medical staff policies and procedures.
• Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborates with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and coordinate patient care plans.
• Identifies and addresses complex discharge planning needs to support timely achievement of patient goals.
• Supports quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement activities, research projects, and departmental goals.
• Aids in the orientation, training, and supervision of dietetic interns, registration-eligible dietitians, dietetic technicians, and new team members.
• Develops, reviews, and updates educational materials, clinical resources, and departmental reference tools.
• Aids in regulatory and accreditation survey preparation and compliance activities.
• Responds timely to electronic communications and maintains effective communication with all stakeholders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and healthcare technology systems.
• Knowledge of nutrition services, medical nutrition therapy, and evidence-based dietetics practice.
• Knowledge of nutrient analysis software, electronic communication tools, and spreadsheet applications.
• Ability to research, evaluate, and apply current nutrition science and practice guidelines.
• Ability to serve as a nutrition resource for patients, staff, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Knowledge of quality improvement principles and performance improvement processes.
• Ability to participate effectively in interdisciplinary meetings, patient care rounds, and care coordination activities.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and healthcare compliance practices.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and clinical resources.
• Ability to identify barriers to patient care and implement solutions that improve outcomes and processes.
• Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and timely records.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing dietetics practice.
• Ability to assess energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, fluid, vitamin, and mineral requirements using evidence-based standards and guidelines.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, patient needs, and operational requirements.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree required. Field of Study Dietetics, Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, or a related field.

Work Experience

• Clinical nutrition experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) required.
• Additional licenses, certifications, or credentials may be required based on state regulations, business unit, specialty area, or practice setting.
