Registered Nurse - I

Summary

The 1:1 Registered Nurse 1 position will support the student of 622 by triaging student health concerns in the health office, planning for students with health conditions, and managing the health needs of our student. Must be comfortable and knowledgeable with Tracheostomy care.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing
• Current CPR certification
• Valid Driver's License (in-district travel required)
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
• Commitment to confidentiality regarding students and staff
• Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships with school personnel and the community

Preferred Qualifications

• BS/BA in nursing
• Previous experience as a school nurse

Responsibilities

• Delegates to school personnel the performance of skilled nursing procedures, according to the MN Nurse Practice Act
• Demonstrates knowledge of ISD 622 policies as well as state and federal laws related to school health service programs
• Participates in research and evaluation of school health services
• Administers medications in accordance with physicians' orders and parent authorization, using ISD 622 procedures and School Board Policy
• Maintain health service records within the Campus System
• Observe students for developmental and health related status
• Evaluate and interpret health data to access and accommodate individual needs in accordance with ISD 622 and the MN Data Practices Act, HIPAA, FERPAP
• Promote and assist in communicable disease control through immunization programs, early detection, monitoring and reporting
• Initiate referrals to parents, school and community resources for intervention and follow-up
• Provide on-going health counseling and health education to students and families
• Recommend and assist with implementation of school programs to meet students' health needs: 504 plans, Individual Health Plans (IHP's), and Emergency Care Plans (ECP's)
• Implement school health management protocol for students with acute and/or chronic health conditions (includes the administration of medication and other medically directed treatments)
• Utilize District 622 first aid guidelines and infectious disease guideline when caring for students and staff
• Participate with the crisis intervention team for acute illness, injury and emotional crisis
• Promote parental skill development and learning
• Serve as a resource to teachers providing health information and supports employee wellness programs
• Obtain knowledge of OSHA standards
• Attend annual mandatory Blood Borne Pathogen Training
• Absent from work as requested by Principal
• Attend required in-service education offerings, CPR and First Aid Training
• Perform duties applicable and accountable to the level of education and/or licensure
• Perform general office duties as follows: Answer phone, voice mail and e-mail; File; Record pertinent data into Campus; Order and inventory supplies bi-annually
