About the role

The Department of Developmental Services (Department) is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join the Stabilization Training Assessment Re-Integration (STAR) Acute Crisis Homes team. In this role, you will provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities during times of acute crisis, focusing on person-centered care and creating a safe, supportive environment. STAR serves adolescents (11–17 years old) and adults (18+) receiving regional center services in community-based homes (4–5 beds) located in Vacaville, Springville, and Costa Mesa.

As part of the STAR team, you will assist individuals with activities of daily living, provide emotional support, and promote independence in a community home setting. This position is ideal for those passionate about making a positive impact in their community.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered care to individuals with developmental disabilities during acute crisis situations.

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) required.
• Must pass a drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to hire.
• Lawful authorization to work in the United States; the Department does not sponsor employment visas.
• Must be a California resident at the time of appointment (per California Government Code).
• Registered Dietitian certification with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (or proof of eligibility to apply for registration).
• Ability to drive up to 300 miles per day and travel throughout Northern or Southern California, including overnight stays as needed.
• Willingness to work extended hours or varying shifts based on operational needs.

Desirable Qualifications

• Empathetic understanding of individuals with developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health/behavioral conditions.
• Sufficient physical strength, agility, endurance, and sensory ability to perform duties safely and effectively.
• Experience working with individuals with severe behavioral (e.g., aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, elopement) and psychiatric conditions (e.g., psychosis, mood disorders, PTSD, suicidal ideation).
• Tact, patience, emotional stability, and keen observation skills.

Pay

$6,455.00 – $8,571.00 per month. New state employees will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range minimum, if applicable.
