About the role

The Department of Developmental Services (Department) is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join the Stabilization Training Assistance Reintegration (STAR) Acute Crisis Homes team. In this role, you will provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities during times of acute crisis, focusing on person-centered care and creating a safe, supportive environment. STAR serves adolescents (11–17 years old) and adults (18+) receiving regional center services in community-based homes (4–5 beds) located in Vacaville, Springville, and Costa Mesa.

As part of the STAR team, you will assist individuals with activities of daily living, provide emotional support, and promote independence in a community home setting. This position is ideal for those passionate about making a positive impact in their community.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities during acute crisis situations.

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions that would impede job duties.
• Must pass a drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to hire.
• Must be a resident of California at the time of appointment (per California Government Code).li>
• Lawful authorization to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship provided).
• Certification or License: Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Applicants with proof of eligibility to apply for registration may take the examination but must become registered to be eligible for appointment.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to drive up to 300 miles per day and travel throughout Northern (for N. STAR) or Southern (for S. STAR) California, including overnight stays as needed.
• Works extended hours or varying shifts based on operational needs.

Desirable Qualifications

• Empathetic understanding of individuals with developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health/behavioral conditions.
• Physical and emotional capacity to perform duties, including strength, agility, endurance, and patience.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability) and severe behavioral/psychiatric conditions (e.g., aggression, self-injurious behavior, psychosis, mood disorders, PTSD, suicidal ideation).

Pay

$6,455.00 – $8,571.00 per month. New state employees are typically hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range.

Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to a 3% salary reduction in exchange for 5 hours per month of Personal Leave Program time.
