Responsibilities
- Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and organizational accounting policies.
- Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes for assigned schools and entities.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring consistency and accuracy across financial records.
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
- Ensure timely completion of E-Finance state reporting requirements.
- Aid in accruals, allocations, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other accounting activities.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, liabilities, and intercompany accounts.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies, variances, or trends requiring resolution.
- Maintain organized and accurate supporting documentation for financial reporting and audit purposes.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide supporting documentation for annual independent financial audits.
- Aid in federal, state, and compliance reporting requirements, including Charter Board filings, IRS Form 990 support, and Single Audit submissions.
- Support the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of internal controls and accounting best practices.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and applicable financial regulations.
- Partner with Payroll, Accounts Payable, Grants, and operational teams to ensure accurate financial coding and reporting.
- Aid in developing, documenting, and improving accounting policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Support ERP system enhancements, implementations, and finance-related process improvements.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple regions and organizational entities.
- Adapt to evolving business needs and support special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA certification or active CPA track preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Experience in nonprofit, education, charter school, or multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with enterprise-level accounting systems required; Workday ERP experience strongly preferred.
