Regional Laboratory Manager - Southwest
Summary
The Regional Laboratory Manager provides active P&L leadership for multiple laboratories as assigned. The individual in this role provides strong leadership, a strategic mindset, and strong business acumen to drive performance KPI initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Exhibit exemplary ethics and champion these ethics. Shared accountability for achieving the profit and loss targets of the region.
- Accountable performance KPI’s in the region to include turnaround time, retest optimization, certificate of analyses revision, PTP, SQC, and other KPI as assigned.
- Responsible for assigned laboratories cost optimization to include consumables, repair and maintenance and external subcontracting.
- Responsible for laboratory personnel decisions across the region, including recruitment, retention, training and professional development.
- Promote and drive development and optimization of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to improve quality, service, customer engagement, and laboratory process management.
- Support client marketing and development and assist with identification and development of new business opportunities within the region and across North America.
- Act as a liaison with the Technical Services group to reduce instrument downtime. This may include hands-on instrument maintenance, repair and calibration.
- Act as a liaison with the Quality and EHS team to optimize performance. This may include hands-on with quality and safety tasks.
- Maintain corporate policy & procedure adherence at regional level.
- Champion employee motivation.
- Disseminate corporate level information and direction to all assigned laboratories.
- Review local operations for all aspects of the continuous improvement process. Work collaboratively with Sales/BD, Key Account Managers and Inspection Operations to continually improve to foster customer partnerships.
- Handle all disciplinary matters in a fair and consistent manner and maintain open communication with Human Resources.
- Represents Bureau Veritas by appearance and conduct.
- Ensure business practices meet or exceed company policy and industry standards.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledgeable of ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
- Successful track record of leadership.
- Solid decision maker to drive both short- and long-term performance.
- Broad experience in laboratory environment, inspection and other petrochemical related business as well as in-depth understanding of the business operation and customer base.
- Understanding and experience of good business management practices, including basic finance, strategy, HR, sales and marketing.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in scientific discipline, business, economics or related field.
- 5+ years' experience in a leadership role in a laboratory and/or quality management environment.
- Experience with P&L responsibilities (as an individual or part of a team) is a plus.
- LEAN or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
