Regional Environmental Engineer, AWS Environmental Team

About the role
Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental compliance professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a Regional Environmental Engineer (REE), you will be responsible for environmental compliance at AWS data centers in Ohio. This position is based in Columbus, Ohio and will require travel throughout the state.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee compliance with environmental regulations and Amazon policy
- Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization
- Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards
- Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor, and forecast performance
- Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement
- Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently
- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company
- Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately
- Assist in time-critical report submission to various governmental agencies
- Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports, and develop appropriate corrective action
About the team
The AWS Environmental team is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations, including physical data centers and other AWS facilities. The team is responsible for architecting and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs, including:
- Defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems
- Setting and refining global policies and procedures
- Overseeing the development of standards, tools, auditing, metrics, and employee training
- Ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including sustainability goals
- Providing specialist expertise
- Engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective compliance strategies
You’ll collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles in an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual, regulatory, and liability assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs, and water discharge requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction or project management experience
- Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License or operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $96,000.00 - $166,300.00 USD annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
