Regional Enviro Engineer, AWS Environmental Team

About the role
Join a dynamic team of environmental professionals leading environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The AWS Environmental team enables AWS’s global growth by ensuring compliance of data centers and other AWS facilities. You will develop regional and site-specific strategies for data center development, lead environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance, and engage with stakeholders across AWS and external partners. This role requires strong communication and project management skills to deliver high-priority projects with tight timelines.
Responsibilities
- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory evaluations, natural and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new and existing data centers.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams (Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, etc.) to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop environmentally responsible and sustainable site development and permitting strategies while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations for environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
- Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental permits and track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
- 7+ years of experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs and support for investigative and remedial activities.
- At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
- Strong understanding of multi-media U.S. environmental permitting, remediation, and compliance requirements, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act (CWA) 404 and NPDES permitting, Threatened & Endangered Species, RCRA, SPCC, and SARA Title III.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in permitting within multiple states in the southwestern U.S. (preferably CA, NV, AZ, NM).
- Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or risk assessment experience.
- Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.

Pay
Base salary range:
- USA, TX, Austin: $111,300.00 - $186,100.00 USD annually.
- USA, WA, Seattle: $111,300.00 - $186,100.00 USD annually.
