About the role
Oversee and manage the delivery of consistent operational processes and results for 10–15 sites across the US. Provide engineering expertise and related functions to site-based engineers. Lead scope definition, design, budgeting, scheduling, line layouts, purchasing, cost estimating and control, implementation, system integration, documentation, report writing, start-up, and training. Drive the sector engineering and innovation strategy, ensuring consistency across the business unit.
Responsibilities
- Define, develop, implement, and manage the stage-gate process for continuous improvement and innovation projects from opportunity identification through delivery and stabilization.
- Develop, maintain, and execute the continuous improvement roadmap aligned with sector strategy, accounting for internal and external process and financial improvements.
- Direct and perform project management and engineering functions, including scope definition, design, budgeting, scheduling, line layouts, purchasing, cost estimating and control, implementation, system integration, documentation, report writing, start-up, and training.
- Design and install safe mechanical and automated systems and processes.
- Manage, lead, support, and develop the field engineering team within sector operations across the USA and Canada.
- Select and manage outside engineering resources to meet project, customer, product, and capacity requirements.
- Select and manage external vendors and contractors for engineering and maintenance-related projects.
- Stay abreast of technology enhancements within the industry.
- Provide management of project engineers, senior project engineers, and/or engineering technicians, including people management responsibilities.
- Lead and direct large, multi-site continuous improvement projects and implementation of solutions.
- Partner with customers to develop requirements and define solution sets.
- Partner with business development on potential new business to determine engineering impact.
- Develop business cases related to capital projects, including associated project plans and cost estimates. Navigate approval processes and manage installation of capital improvements.
Requirements
- BS degree in an engineering field, with emphasis on Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Facilities, and/or Maintenance Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in engineering, with emphasis on complex distribution center implementation projects or engineering management.
- Three to five years of project management experience in a distribution/fulfillment and/or engineering environment.
