Job Summary

The Department of Housing Administration and Finance plays a vital role in the success of the University of Connecticut and its students by providing quality facilities, personnel, services and programs that contribute to the mission of the University. UConn Campus Housing enhances students' personal, interpersonal, and intellectual growth by creating safe and inclusive environments, innovative programs, and fostering meaningful relationships. Our comprehensive, student-centered, residential program houses over 14,600 students across three campuses. Approximately 65% of the undergraduate population resides in university-managed housing. We offer our students an array of housing facilities and options to enhance their learning experience, including a variety of learning communities and special interest housing options. Campus Housing consists of two departments: Housing Administration and Finance, and Residential Living and Education. Housing Administration and Finance works cooperatively with Facilities Operations and many other campus partners and departments.

About the Role

The Regional Campus Housing Coordinator is responsible for the central coordination of housing assignment functions for the student population residing at regional campuses, including special-interest groups. Assist and support management of occupancy for on-campus housing through database management and constant communication with students, faculty, staff, and family members to ensure accurate record keeping for emergency, billing, and community-building needs. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Housing Administration and Finance. To be effective, this position needs to work in close collaboration with leaders and staff through Campus Housing, the regional campuses and the University. The regional campus housing coordinator will share time between all regional campuses and the Storrs campus, with a home base in Storrs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the liaison for the regional campuses to provide support for policy questions, processes and procedures for students.
  • Responsible for assisting in the management and maintenance of residential occupancy data and administration of room assignment policies and procedures throughout the year for approximately 1000 students at regional campuses.
  • Provide information and support to various specialty areas, including but not limited to: Center for Students with Disabilities, Student Health and Wellness, Learning Communities, Greek organizations, Veterans Affairs, Gender Inclusive, Athletics, and Honors.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate records and compile reports as needed or requested.
  • Utilizes multiple computer programs for data entry and compilation of detailed spreadsheets.
  • Provide individual support and advice to students as needed concerning housing assignments. This may include one-on-one discussions with students about their personal situations and roommate-related issues.
  • Serve as primary contact for residence hall staff in relation to room and building changes for on-campus undergraduate students, utilizing developmental principles, ensuring policies are applied consistently, and independently making exceptions to policies when appropriate.
  • Aid in the development of policies, procedures, publications, goal development, assessment activities, training activities, and overall operation of the housing services unit, specific to the operations of regional campuses.
  • Independently compose, prepare and edit correspondence and reports containing information that requires thorough knowledge and understanding of housing policies and procedures; and assist in generating and developing communications for students, parents, and the University community related to on-campus housing policies and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve complaints from students, parents, staff and public regarding policies and procedures related to housing assignments. Inform current and prospective students and parents of policies and procedures and represent the department in communication.
  • Send out mass communications to students on campus informing them of upcoming processes or policies that are in place.
  • Process all transactions in the Housing software program related to moves in vacancies, trading spaces processes, and new students’ assignments.
  • Present housing information to residence hall students, potential students, their families and other University staff. Including but not limited to Open House and Orientation.
  • Aid in the periodic testing of housing application and selection processes and software upgrades.
  • Create communications for students who are assigned to various areas of campus corresponding with the specialty groups listed above. Communicate with these students regarding their needs and assist them in finding assignments that meet these needs, including email, phone, and in-person meetings by coordinating with campus and community partners.
  • Participate in various committees and work groups.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of full-time post-Bachelor's degree experience in a higher education field.
  • Demonstrated human relations and communication skills, with the ability to interact with students, families, and campus partners.
  • Clear commitment to, demonstrated understanding of and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Articulated knowledge of the trends related to college students, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management.
  • Experience managing complex and detailed projects/tasks.
  • Experience with housing assignment software.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
