Refugee Resettlement | Behavioral Health Specialist

Catholic Charities seeks a Behavioral Health Specialist to serve refugee students and families in the Houston‑Galveston area through the Refugee School Impact program. The role involves assessing eligible participants, providing mental‑health training, making referrals, and collaborating with the education team and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health trainings to participants enrolled in the Refugee School Impact program.
• Develop and implement professional development trainings for community partners on refugee mental health.
• Work closely with the education team to connect with refugee students who need mental health care.
• Make appropriate referrals for mental health services and follow up to ensure students are connected with services.
• Create resource packets for schools on the topic of mental health.
• Coordinate crisis intervention meetings with school counselors, teachers, and parents for students in crisis.
• Lead social‑emotional learning activities for the RSI program and evaluate the efficacy of interventions.
• Develop social‑emotional curriculum for after‑school programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field with a Community Health Worker background.
• At least one (1) year of experience working in the field of mental health.
• Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
• Friendly and courteous demeanor when interacting with visitors.
• Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Proficiency with standard office equipment (phone system, copier, fax, etc.).
• Strong connections with mental health providers in the Houston community and a passion for working with refugee students.
• Compliance with federal contractor vaccine mandate requirements.
