About the role
The Referrals Coordinator acts as a working referrals representative who can perform the everyday duties of other representatives when needed. This role oversees the day-to-day functions of the central referrals department and provides leadership to staff, working closely with Referrals Training Specialists and Medical Group leadership to address trends, concerns, or workflows that may impact referrals.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the central referrals department in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Acts as a role model and provides leadership to staff in the department on a daily basis.
- Provides feedback to management for annual performance evaluations.
- Understands and adheres to all HIPAA privacy and security regulations, policies, and practices.
- Works closely with management to ensure workflow, productivity, and department standards are met; assists in the training and development of new staff and/or workflows.
- Acts as a liaison between external offices, providers, and staff; communicates problems, suggestions, or concerns to management.
- Suggests improvements to workflows and ensures staff meet department standards.
- Works closely with clinical and business services staff to perform various duties.
- Acts as a resource for internal and external customers, offering guidance and support for referral-related questions, processes, and problems.
- Maintains statistical information and reports in conjunction with the department manager as directed.
- Ensures accurate and timely referral processing and documentation in accordance with department guidelines.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- 1 year of experience in a referrals department/position (3+ years preferred).
- Experience within a medical office or billing department preferred.
- Medical terminology and knowledge of patient billing preferred.
- Excellent keyboard skills and proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment.
- Accuracy, dependability, and the ability to assess own strengths and weaknesses.
