Referral Coordinator
About the role

As a Referral Coordinator, you will serve as a key point of contact for patients, providers, specialists, and insurance carriers, ensuring referrals are processed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Process, track, and coordinate patient referrals and diagnostic orders
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements
- Schedule specialty appointments and coordinate care with outside providers
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Communicate with patients, specialists, health plans, and community organizations
- Serve as a resource for patients by helping navigate healthcare, financial, and social barriers
- Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of referral requests
- Support care coordination and continuity of care efforts
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of healthcare, referral coordination, medical office, patient services, or related experience preferred
- Medical Assistant training or certification preferred
- Knowledge of insurance plans, authorizations, and healthcare terminology
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (NextGen preferred)
- Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining patient confidentiality
Qualifications
