Referral and Scheduling Coordinator
About the role
The Referral and Scheduling Coordinator schedules and pre-registers patients for exams and procedures with specialists and providers outside of the primary care physician's office. This role performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative/operational/customer support assignments, including computations. The coordinator gathers and communicates all relative information and preparation instructions to patients and referring providers. Work is typically semi-routine, with some latitude over prioritization and timing, and is performed under minimal direction. This role reports to the Medical Referrals Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and pre-register patients for exams and procedures with specialists and providers outside of the primary care physician's office
- Gather and communicate all relative information and preparation instructions to patients and referring providers
- Perform varied administrative, operational, and customer support assignments
- Perform computations related to referrals and scheduling
- Interpret area/department policy and methods for completing assignments
- Follow standard policies and practices with opportunity for interpretation and independent discretion
- Maintain professional communication at all levels within the organization and with patients
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on referral healthcare experience in a clinical setting, preferably within the Medicare population
- Proficient with medical terminology
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records
- Excellent professional communication abilities at all levels within the organization and with patients
- Must be part of the company's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program and be screened for TB if selected
- Passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of Referral experience
- Healthcare leadership experience
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare or business administration
- Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT coding
- Medical Assistant or Professional State Certifications related to healthcare
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location
Onsite in New Smyrna Beach, FL, with occasional travel needed to Port Orange, East Port Orange, DeLand, and Orange City.
Pay
$40,000 - $52,300 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan based upon company and/or individual performance.
