About the role
The Reference Assistant (LAPP2) is a part-time, cyclical classified position at Seattle Central College's Broadway Edison library. The salary range is $54,432 to $71,388 annually, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to student-centered library services to a diverse campus community.
- Works under the supervision of the Dean of Libraries, Learning Support, and Employee Development.
- Assists students with recurring quick information and routine reference questions on general subjects and in the use of information tools.
- Explains library procedures, rules, and service policies.
- Refers students to appropriate librarians or technicians when necessary.
- Provides general or subject-specific library instruction to classes under the direction of a librarian.
- Create instructional tools, including handouts, research guides (using LibGuides), and Canvas modules.
- May assist with circulation service, acquisitions tasks, shelving reference materials, and other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE. It is a temporary non-permanent part-time classified position not exceeding 18 months. This is a part-time, working 8-16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, primarily mid-day.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a graduate program in Library and Information Science.
- Interest in learning about community college and/or academic librarianship.
- Proficiency in using standard office productivity applications, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive and effective relationships.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting equitable access and service to a diverse community.
