About the Role
Responsible for collecting, loading, and transporting waste, recycling, and compostable materials to the Emory Recycling Center. Supports sustainability goals through proper sorting, handling, and disposal of materials in compliance with university, federal, state, and local standards.
Responsibilities
- Collect, load, and transport waste, recycling, and compostable materials.
- Lift and pull bags/receptacles weighing 50–75 pounds; mount and dismount a truck multiple times per shift.
- Record and document collected material weights with strong organizational skills.
- Assist in facility and vehicle maintenance to ensure a clean, safe work environment.
- Sort and handle materials to ensure proper disposal in alignment with Emory’s waste minimization goals.
- Communicate with supervisor to process work orders and complete labor on time.
- Operate large trucks, bailers, shredding equipment, and forklifts (training provided if needed).
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and handle confidential materials properly.
- Follow bio-safety protocols and comply with Emory’s Environmental Health and Safety Office standards.
- Support department needs as a team player, including flexibility with routes and schedule adjustments.
- Work overtime during evenings and weekends for special event activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of related experience.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License with an insurable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and twisting.
- Basic understanding of HIPAA regulations preferred.
- Must work in-person at an Emory University location; remote work is not an option.
