About the role
Responsible for collecting, sorting, and handling waste, recycling, and compostable materials from designated recycling stations located within the buildings and loading docks of Emory University. Transports recyclable and compostable materials to designated loading docks and/or the Emory Recycling Center for further processing.
Responsibilities
- Ensure bin stations are clean, labeled, serviced with designated bag color, and remain located in the designated location.
- Record collected material weights; document collections with strong organizational skills.
- Adhere to Emory University safety and security standards, including Environmental Health and Safety Office protocols for bio-safety.
- Assist in facility, equipment, and vehicle management maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with university standards as well as federal, state, and local requirements.
- Remain knowledgeable of Emory University's sustainability goals, specifically regarding waste diversion.
- Serve as a resource to building occupants on proper recycling methods and guidelines.
- Communicate with supervisor and/or team leader to ensure work order information meets department standards.
- Support department needs by being a team player and flexible regarding route and schedule adjustments.
- Assist with maintaining clean, safe, and compliant loading docks.
- Perform duties during special event activities, which may require overtime in the evenings and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong verbal communication and excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and pull bags and receptacles weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and twist.
- Must be able to walk an average of 3 miles per shift.
- Some positions may require a valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record.
This position requires in-person work at an Emory University location; remote work is not an option.
