UTS - Temporary Recycling Collections Operator at NC State

Raleigh, NC – Temporary position with a work schedule of Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (40 hours per week).

Responsibilities

  • Bulk Waste and Electronics Collections – scheduled route collections averaging 180 sites per week for materials and electronics not accepted in the automated or recycling collection system. Transport and sort into appropriate materials bins at the Dearstyne Rolloff Site. Bulk materials include pallets, crates, discarded furniture, scrap metal, electronics, etc.
  • Recycling and Reuse Collections – customer-requested collections of reuse, recycling, and unwanted building items, hauling to Dearstyne for recycling or disposal. On-demand service for campus customers with a response time of 1-2 business days. Includes delivery and pickup of carts for office cleanouts, pickup and signature collections of confidential recycling, and preparing/distributing materials for reuse in other areas or departments.
  • Events and Projects – Field support to provide special waste, recycling, and compost services for campus events. Support major activities such as residence hall move-in and move-out, including additional services, monitoring, and staff support for collections.
  • Repair, Maintenance, Safety – Inspect and maintain containers related to waste and recycling collection on campus, including cleaning, proper labeling, delivery, distribution, and placement of containers inside and outside buildings. Inspect and maintain assigned trucks and equipment. Perform all duties in compliance with established safe work practices, following safety and health regulations, policies, and procedures. Identify and resolve potential safety concerns or violations.
  • Customer service and communication – Share information with a diverse work group, communicate and implement operational procedures, standards, or changes.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
  • Valid driver’s license required; North Carolina driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Safe driving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with collection of waste and recycling.
  • Experience with cleaning, proper labeling, delivery, distribution, and maintenance inspection.

Pay

$20.00 per hour.
