Recycling and Transfer Facility Attendant

Reporting to the RTF Operations Manager, the RTF Attendant delivers high-level customer service at the town’s Recycling and Transfer Facility by greeting the public, communicating procedures, assisting with pay-per-drop payments, and supporting general operations.

Responsibilities

• General Operations (45%)
  • Open and close the transfer station gates according to schedule
  • Direct incoming vehicles to proper disposal areas and check for valid transfer station permits
  • Maintain cleanliness of the transfer station, including picking up debris and keeping staff areas tidy
  • Receive payments for additional charge waste items
  • Assist in starting/stopping machinery as needed using stop and start buttons
  • Perform work assignments in a prompt, efficient, and safe manner
  • Pick up windblown or discarded debris to maintain a neat work environment
• Public Communications (50%)
  • Greet visitors entering the facility
  • Explain transfer station procedures to the public and monitor materials to prohibit disposal of prohibited items
  • Represent the town in a professional manner at all times
  • Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, town officials, and the general public
• Other duties (5%) as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least six (6) months of experience in a customer service environment
• Experience in cash handling is preferred
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, communicate effectively, and work independently
• Knowledge and ability to follow all general safety procedures and practices

Pay

$23.01 per hour with annual performance-based step increases and cost-of-living (COLA) adjustments.

Schedule

19 hours per week, with flexible hours between Wednesday and Sunday.
