About the role

As a Recreational Therapist at Wilson Medical Center, you will contribute to making communities healthier by:

  • Conducting assessments and establishing treatment goals to meet individual patient needs.
  • Pre-certifying patient care and conducting ongoing reviews to authorize continued care.
  • Evaluating patient progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.
  • Formulating a goal-directed plan of care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Coordinating therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
  • Aiding in the development of discharge plans in a timely and documented manner.
  • Providing patients and their families with information about leisure lifestyles and promoting recreational resources in their community.

Responsibilities

A Recreational Therapist who excels in this role:

  • Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.
  • Pre-certifies patient care and conducts ongoing reviews to authorize continued care.
  • Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary treatment team utilizing assessment data from the Interdisciplinary Assessments.
  • Updates Treatment Plan weekly or more often as needed.
  • Captures therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
  • Aids in the development of discharge plans in a timely and documented manner.
  • Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure lifestyles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.

Certifications: BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.

Licenses: Therapeutic Recreation Specialist license in NC required.

Experience

Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
