Recreation Specialist: Youth Sports Official

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator, performs various tasks as necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community.

Essential Functions

  • Officiates sport games for youth including flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and t-ball.
  • Study, understand, perform, and enforce proper officiating practices, mechanics and sport specific rules.
  • Studies, understands, and enforces proper officiating practices, mechanics and sport specific rules.
  • Sets up and takes down all equipment during shifts.
  • Writes injury reports for players that get injured during the course of a game.
  • Writes ejection reports for any coach/player that gets ejected from a game.
  • Aids in field preparation for each sport.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Working/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

  • Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
  • Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Qualifications

  • Education: None required.
  • Experience: Prior officiating experience preferred, but not required.
  • Age Requirement: All applicants must be 14 years of age or older.
  • Licenses And/or Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Knowledge Of Working knowledge of rules and official mechanics in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and baseball/softball preferred. Skills Highly motivated Dependable Customer service oriented Computer literate Ability To Communicate effectively with coaches and players. Handle tense situations by communicating with coaches and players. Accurately write reports including descriptions of injuries and ejections. Follow Directions Perform Physical Labor Be Flexible Work with a team
