Job Overview
The City of El Cajon is seeking Recreation Specialist I and II positions starting at $16.32 and $18.46 hourly respectively. Positions are part-time temporary and involve teaching dance classes to children and adults.
About the Role
This position requires the ability to direct and supervise participants, organize and instruct classes, and ensure the health and safety of participants. It involves working independently and adjusting to new situations.
Responsibilities
- Directing and supervising participants of the Recreation programs
- Plans, organizes, and instructs classes in their area of specialization
- Maintains records pertinent to programs
- Implements age-appropriate activities and events
- Ensures the health, welfare, and safety of the participants
- Works closely with the Recreation Supervisor
- Assists staff in organizing and cleaning facility areas and equipment
- Establishes and maintains relationships with parents, community center staff, and other key individuals
- Maintain a fun and positive attitude daily to create a happy environment for participants
Requirements
- Knowledge of recreational activities
- Ability to be creative and innovative with recreation programs
- Possess excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work with children and/or adults and give effective guidance to participants
- Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work with participants of all ages
- Experience with recreation programming and leading activities for children and/or adults
- Experience including background in preschool dance, jazz, modern, creative dance, and hip hop is recommended
- Ability to obtain a CPR card and First Aid Certificate
- Flexible work schedule that may require morning and evening hours, as well as weekends and holidays
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- College-level courses in recreation, education, physical education, or related field is desired
- Training in area of specialization related to dance
- Some experience with recreation programming and leading activities for children and/or adults
- Experience including background in preschool dance, jazz, modern, creative dance, and hip hop is recommended
- Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work with participants of all ages
- Ability to obtain a CPR card and First Aid Certificate
