Recreation & Parks - Skilled Worker/Shade Tree Apprentice

The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for a regular full-time position of Skilled Worker/Shade Tree Apprentice in the Department of Parks & Recreation.

Responsibilities

• Operating light, medium and heavy-duty trucks equipped with manual, automatic and dual range transmissions.
• Operating a variety of machinery including but not limited to woodchippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and snow blowers.
• Cleaning, maintaining, and performing repairs on equipment and machinery.
• Planting, maintaining and removing trees on township property.
• Clearing view obstructions in public right-of-way.
• Performing snow removal for public walkways, parking lots and streets.
• Organizing work zones, trucks and equipment.
• Performing cleanup of job sites.
• Performing related duties as required.
• May work in adverse weather conditions, within public streets and rights-of-way, and in areas with vehicular traffic.
• Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour on-call basis.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid N.J. driver’s license and requires valid NJ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “A” endorsement.
• Ability to operate loaders when needed.
• Ability to plant and maintain trees.
• Ability to learn tree removal techniques, including lowering/rigging and working within a safety zone for large tree removals.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time with other Departments based on necessity, including but not limited to the Department of Public Works, Snow Removal Operations, and Leaf Program.

As per the State of New Jersey, if you begin your employment on September 1, 2011 or later, you must reside in New Jersey. If you do not, you have one year after the date you accept employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey.
