About the role

Professional Tree Care is hiring entry-level trainees for its Grounds-to-Climber Apprenticeship program. This self-paced program is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and become ISA-certified Tree Climbers.

Responsibilities

• Learn knots, practice climbing, and assist fellow apprentices on weekends.
• Work outdoors year-round in Northern California weather conditions such as rain, direct sun, etc.
• Lift 50 pounds and hoist/pull oneself up into trees using ropes and pulleys.
• Study books and advance at your own pace in knotting, climbing techniques, and ascending safely.
• Work fast for up to 8 hours per day.
• Not afraid of heights.

Requirements

• Current and clean California Driver's License with reliable transportation.
• Three or more years of work experience since obtaining a G.E.D. or high school diploma.
• Physically fit, capable of lifting 50 pounds and hoisting/pulling oneself into trees.
• Able to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Able to run, walk, and hustle for up to 8 hours per day.
• Not afraid of heights.
• Seeking a career, not just a job.
• Live within a 45-minute commute of Richmond, CA.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in Grounds-person work, landscaping, tree or rock climbing, or similar fields.

Skills

Pay

$21.00 to start, with overtime at $31.50 per hour. Apprentice-Two compensation ranges from $23.00 to $29.00 per hour. Climber pay ranges from $30.00 and up for positions such as Independent Climber, Crew Lead, Foreman, and Lead Supervisor.

Schedule

The position is based in Martinez, CA, and requires reliable transportation to work sites that cannot be reached by public transportation, Uber, scooter, or bike. The commute to the job site is approximately 45 minutes from Richmond, CA.
