Recreation Leader II - Youth Programs

The City of Burien's Recreation Division is seeking enthusiastic, dependable individuals passionate about supporting safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for elementary and middle school youth. In this role, you will support recreation staff with day‑to‑day programming and serve as a positive role model for youth. The ideal candidate enjoys interactive engagement with youth, supports programming needs, communicates effectively with community partners, and is committed to being a positive role model. Reliable attendance and a strong sense of responsibility are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the supervision of youth participants at assigned programming sites.
• Assist in program and activity development.
• Assist in the setup and takedown of programming materials and equipment.
• May provide transportation for youth using a city van to various sites (incumbents over 21 only).

Requirements

• One year of experience in youth programs, with one year of college coursework in Recreation, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check.
• Applicants age 21 and over may be required to provide transportation; if so, a valid Washington State driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are required.
• Valid First Aid and Child and Adult CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to obtain a public health department food handler’s permit may be required.

Schedule

• 0–19 hours per week.
• Shifts: Monday‑Thursday, typically 2:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.; Friday, typically 1:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
• Duration: September 2026 through June 2027 (approximately).
• Employment type: nonexempt, temporary, intermittent.
