Recreation Director
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive recreation and lifestyle programs, including fitness, wellness, cultural, and social activities.
- Oversee planning and execution of community events, sports leagues, youth programs, and special interest clubs.
- Manage the scheduling, staffing, and budgeting of recreation programs.
- Collaborate with local organizations, vendors, and instructors to enhance program offerings.
- Ensure all recreational facilities meet safety and accessibility standards.
- Develop and enforce policies for facility use, rentals, and reservations.
- Foster strong relationships with residents and community stakeholders to assess needs and gather feedback.
- Work with the marketing team to promote recreation programs through social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Develop and manage the recreation department budget, ensuring cost-effective program delivery.
- Supervise and train recreation staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Monitor participation, track program success, and make data-driven improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Hospitality, Sports Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP); Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE). Candidates without certification must be willing to obtain CPRP certification within one year of employment.
- 5+ years of experience in recreation, community programming, or a similar role, preferably in a master-planned community, HOA, or municipal setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in budgeting, event planning, and staff supervision.
- Proficiency in recreation management software and digital marketing tools.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Qualifications
- Experience working with multicultural organizations or programming for diverse audiences.
- Experience in sustainable and eco-friendly recreation initiatives.
- Familiarity with state specific recreation and HOA regulations.
- Experience in designing inclusive and adaptive recreation programs for diverse populations.
- Experience in health, fitness, and wellness programming.
- Experience working with volunteer coordination and community outreach.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Experience in designing and executing recreation initiatives with local businesses and sponsors.
- Expertise in utilizing recreation management software such as RecDesk, CivicRec, or similar platforms.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected starting salary is $90,000 per year.
